Sustainability and Climate Change
At Woodsetts Primary School, we are committed to creating a greener, more sustainable future for our children and community. In line with the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, every school is expected to have a Sustainability Lead and a Climate Action Plan in place by 2025.
Our Climate Action Plan sets out how we will play our part in tackling climate change, protecting the environment, and preparing our pupils for the future. It is a “live” working document that will be reviewed regularly, developed with staff, pupils, families and community partners.
What is included in our Climate Action Plan?
The plan is built around the national framework and covers key areas:
- Decarbonisation – reducing our energy use and moving towards renewable and efficient alternatives.
- Adaptation and Resilience – ensuring our school is prepared for the impacts of climate change, such as heatwaves, flooding, or poor air quality.
- Biodiversity – protecting and enhancing nature on our school site through planting, gardening, and creating wildlife-friendly spaces.
- Climate Education and Green Careers – giving our pupils the knowledge, skills, and inspiration to understand environmental issues and see the opportunities in green jobs of the future.
- Sustainable Travel, Food, and Waste – encouraging active travel to school, reducing food waste, supporting healthy and plant-based choices, and cutting down on waste and single-use plastics.
Why this matters
By working together as a school and community, we can reduce our environmental impact while giving our children the tools and experiences they need to become responsible global citizens.
