Equality at Woodsetts Primary School
At Woodsetts Primary School, we are proud to be a community where everyone is treated fairly, with respect, and given the support they need to succeed. We want every child to reach their full potential, and we recognise that for some pupils, additional support or adjustments may be necessary to help them thrive.
We are committed to fulfilling our duties under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty, which require us to:
-
Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation, and any other conduct prohibited by law.
-
Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
-
Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
We also welcome our duty under the Education and Inspections Act 2006 to promote community cohesion and our responsibility to narrow gaps in achievement for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds, those with SEND, and other vulnerable groups.
Our Commitment in Practice
Our school’s commitment to equality runs through everything we do. We:
-
Embed equality and inclusion through our curriculum, including the No Outsiders programme, carefully selected diversity and inclusion story texts, and Novel Study themes that reflect different cultures, families, and communities.
-
Monitor progress and challenge underperformance for all groups, ensuring no child is left behind.
-
Provide additional support for pupils who need it, ensuring equitable—not just equal—access to success.
-
Make reasonable adjustments to ensure our school is accessible and inclusive for pupils with disabilities.
-
Involve pupils, parents, staff, and governors in shaping our equality objectives and evaluating our progress.
Our Equality Objectives and Plan
We are required to publish:
-
Equality information – showing how our school is complying with the Public Sector Equality Duty (updated annually).
-
Equality objectives – measurable priorities showing how we will reduce inequalities and improve outcomes for pupils, staff, and our community (reviewed every 4 years).
You can read these in our Equality Plan below. Further details can also be found in our Equality Policy in the Policies section.
Our Values – "We CARE"
Our approach to equality is rooted in our core values:
-
We treat everyone fairly and with respect.
-
We ensure our school is a safe, secure, and stimulating environment for all.
-
We understand that treating people equally does not always mean treating them the same.
-
We provide extra support where needed to help every child achieve their potential.
-
We consult and involve people from different groups—including pupils, parents, staff, and governors—when making decisions.
-
We challenge harassment, discrimination, and any form of less favourable treatment based on protected characteristics.
By living these values every day, we create a school where equality and inclusion are not just aspirations but realities.
