 Staying safe online

At Woodsetts Primary, we love using technology to help us learn, play and connect with others. But we also know that it’s really important to use the internet safely and kindly. Here’s how we do it in school – and how you can keep yourself safe online too.

How We Learn About Online Safety

  • In Lessons: We learn about staying safe online in our computing lessons, and sometimes in PSHE, English, RE, and other subjects too.
  • In Assemblies: Teachers remind us about being safe online in assemblies and class briefings every week.
  • Through Games: In Key Stage 2, we use Google Internet Legends to learn about online safety in a fun, game-style way.
  • Special Events: Each year we celebrate Safer Internet Day and Anti-Bullying Week to help us think about how to use the internet positively.

SMART Rules

We follow the SMART rules to help us make good choices online:

  • S – Safe: Keep your personal information private.
  • M – Meet: Never agree to meet anyone you only know online.
  • A – Accepting: Be careful about what you open, click, or download.
  • R – Reliable: Not everything online is true—check with a trusted adult.
  • T – Tell: If something worries you, tell a teacher, parent, or trusted adult straight away.

What To Do If You’re Worried

If you see or hear something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, scared or upset:

  • Stop what you are doing.
  • Tell an adult you trust (at school or at home).
  • Don’t share it with anyone else.
  • You will always be listened to, and we will help you.

The resources page on Childnet includes interactive stories, games, information posters and activities for all age groups.

Jessie & Friends is an animated series and resource pack all about online safety. It has been awarded the PSHE Association Quality Mark.

Remember

At Woodsetts, our motto is WE CARE – and that includes how we behave online.

  • We Care for Ourselves by making safe choices.
  • We Care for Each Other by being respectful and kind online.
  • We Care for Our World by using the internet positively.

Together, we can all be safe, responsible, and respectful digital citizens.

 Our Online Safety Curriculum

We have updated our online safety curriculum to help ensure our children learn to be effective, respectful and safe digital citizens.

We make use of lesson resources such as Project Evolve to help teach important online safety information. More information about our lessons can be found in the curriculum section of our website.

We also make use of the Google Internet Legends Programme in KS2. Info about this can be found online at:
