Welcome to Class 6
Welcome to the Year 6 page. If you have any concerns then please feel free to come in and see us or email.
During Spring term, we will be learning about dinosaurs. The topic is very science-based, with a strong focus on evolution, inheritance and adaptation and looking at famous scientists like Charles Darwin. We will be learning about the life cycle of butterflies and frogs and writing newspaper reports about amazing fossils that have been found.
In maths, we will be looking at shape and space, measuring angles, quadrilaterals and triangles and data handling.
I'm really proud of how well everyone did last term - let's try and make this term even better!
The World at War
Our topic for this half term is World at War. We talk primarily about World War II but we will also discuss World War I. We will create pictures depicting the Blitz, discuss life at home and the trenches and talk about Remembrance and Armistice Day. On Thursday 30th November, we will go to the Holocaust Centre and find out more about what life was like as a Jew.
This half term we are looking at the Mayan Civilsation. The children will learn about the Mayans themselves and then compare them to other civilisations they have studied throughout their time at primary school.
Keep an eye on our twitter feed for more info on what we have been doing in class.
York Chocolate Story
We had a simply amazing time at York's Chocolate Story. We got to make amazing Mayan Chocolate drinks, shown how chocolate is made and then we got a chance to make our own. It was simply delicious, informative and fun. The kids were impeccably behaved and were a real credit to Woodsetts.
Crucial Crew 2018
Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed a day at the Lifewise Centre with the emergency services learning how to keep ourselves safe. The children had a chance to experience different scenarios under a watchful eye of the different staff and had a wonderful day. Thank you to all the staff at Crucial Crew. As ever, it was a fabulous and memorable day.
A piece of English and a piece of Maths homework will be set each week. Some weeks it will be written work; other weeks it will be online on either www.mymaths.com or www.activelearnprimary.co.uk. Please can you make sure that your passwords are working. If they are not, can you let me know, please?
It is important that you read 3 times a week too! We have some children who are nearly the whole way around the reading racetrack in our classroom already!
Every week your child will have 10 spellings to learn. This will consist of 5 from our spelling rule and 5 from our tricky word lists. They will also get tested on 5 mystery words from our spelling rule.
This week's spellings (15th January):
double consonants from the tricky word list:
